The app “Meishio” (the “App”), provided by Hideaki Yasukawa (the “developer” or “we”), handles business cards, which contain personal information about your business contacts. With that in mind, the App is designed on one fundamental premise: neither the images of your business cards nor the text read from them is ever sent outside your device.

1. We do not collect or transmit personal information

The App (and the developer) does not collect or transmit any of the following:

  • Images of the business cards you capture, or the information read from them, such as names, company names, phone numbers, and email addresses
  • Your own personal information, such as your name, email address, or phone number
  • Device identifiers (IDFA, UUID, etc.) or location data
  • Usage data (analytics, crash reports, etc.)

The App has no server and no accounts. All saved business cards are stored only on your device. If you delete the App, the saved cards are removed from your device as well.

iCloud sync (optional, off by default): Only if you turn on “Sync with iCloud” in Settings, your business card data is stored in the iCloud of your own Apple Account (a private database that is not publicly accessible) and synced between iPhones signed in with the same Apple Account. This is a mechanism provided by Apple, and the developer cannot access its contents. If you leave it off, your data never leaves your device.

2. Text recognition (OCR) and field sorting happen on your device

  • Text recognition on business cards uses the Vision framework built into iOS and is processed entirely on your device.
  • On supported devices, Apple Intelligence (Apple’s on-device language model) is used to sort the recognized text into fields such as name and company. This processing also happens entirely on your device; the contents of your business cards are never sent to the developer or to any third party. On devices or settings where Apple Intelligence is unavailable, the App still works using on-device rule-based processing.
  • Every feature of the App works without an internet connection (it works in Airplane Mode, too).

3. Use of the camera, photos, and contacts

  • Camera: Used to photograph business cards. Captured images are stored only on your device.
  • Photos: You can choose business card images from your photo library. Only the images you select are read.
  • Contacts: Only when you choose “Add to Contacts” does the App write business card information to the Contacts app on your device. It never reads your existing contacts or sends them anywhere.

4. No ads or tracking

The App contains no advertising whatsoever. It does not perform any third-party tracking.

5. Exporting (sharing)

Adding to Contacts and exporting to vCard, CSV, or PDF reports happen only when you initiate them. How your data is handled at the destination (Mail, Files, other apps, etc.) is governed by the terms of the app or service you choose.

6. In-app purchases

Paid features are purchased through Apple (the App Store). The developer never receives your payment information.
